Dumb Picture Frames Or Little Smart Simple Computers

Over the past couple of years, digital picture frames have increasingly gotten more popular. In the beginning they started out like many other electronic devices, only those people with “Gotta have it” syndrome (myself included) had the desire to try these things out. They only displayed the pictures you have taken with your digital camera. This typically involves, first figuring out how to use a digital camera, and then transferring the pictures to your home computer and then quite separately also transfer them to your digital picture frame in much the same fashion.

Oh, but what if the pictures are too big of a picture file to fit the on the measly small internal memory of the digital frame. Then you had to take the memory card out of your camera and put it in the digital frame to be able to display them. But how am I going to take more pictures with my digital camera? You mean I have to remember to get my memory card every time and go out and take more pictures? Arrgg, I give up.

The fact that anyone who was going to even think of buying a digital picture frame most likely already had a computer, laptop, or flat-screen television, that could do pretty much the same job. For these reasons, I believe the digital picture frame has been limited to being a great gift for Christmas or Hanuka. So why are so many more people starting to buy digital picture frames?

Well that was then and this is now. Recent technological advances with digital picture frames have created a whole new world of opportunities for these little devices. With screen resolution increasing, they can now be used to display books, magazine articles, recipes.

Digital displaying a recipe in the kitchen with out having to worry about spilling something all over the keyboard, is a very practical use for a digital picture frame. And with the advent of the WiFi technology in these little things, it is now easier than ever to get your pictures loaded. No more USB cords needed to transfer your pictures. The WiFi technology has also opened up the ability to view the weather, news, and sports statistics easily.

I don’t know about anybody else, but I don’t want to have to get on my computer and have to point and click my way to seeing if it’s gonna be nice out tomorrow. I definitely love having the weather forecast displayed right near the front door so I can know whats happening before I leave for work. With these new technologies and new ones emerging every day, the rise of the digital picture frame is upon us.
